How to make your printer into network printer?
In the smaller home networks a problem often occurs when users have access to other computer through network, but printer is usually working through one of the computers on which the printer is shared. Ofcourse this computer must be turned on so others can print with it through network.
Simplate and cheap solution to this problem is to purchase a router with installed USB print server (if our printer has a USB connector). When we've installed the printer on a computer system, we need to prepare it for operating as a network printer.
Now we connect it through the USB port on our router. We describe one option that may variate from manufacturer to manufacturer. In our case, with the SMC Barricade router. Click Start/Settings (Control panel). Here we click "Printers and faxes". With right click wechoose "Properties" menu, open tab "Ports" and choose "Add Port".
In next menu choose Standard TCP/IP Port and in next window enter the IP address of your router. For the end we still have to set up a setting of custom information, when we choose tab "Costum" and click LPR protocol and under the name Queue enter for example: LPT1. Now we choose the only port that is available and printer is ready to print through network.
