Free and opensource programs
You can make a good school assigment also withouth Microsoft word with Openoffice, you can surf through the internet equaly good with Firefore Mozzila and you can see you favourite videos in VLC player.
All the programs that we've mentioned above are free to use.
You can download them on the internet and modify them how ever you want if you know something about programing ofcourse.
So why paying big money for expensive programs if there are equaly good programs for free.

Microsoft Internet Explorer vs. Mozilla Firefox

Alternative to Microsoft IE is Mozilla Firefox (now also Chrome from Google). Some say that free Mozzila is even better and faster. Mybe thats why almost half of the world uses Firefox.
Microsoft Office vs. Open Office.org

All the programs which Microsoft Office supports: acces, powerpoint, word, excel,... Are also incluided in free Open Office.
Microsoft Outlook vs. Thunderbird

Microsoft Media Player vs. VLC Player
